How do we build a digital future with humans at its core?

We recently got introduced to the concept of innovation by design, a way of seeing the creation of digital content not as an end in itself but as a means to an end. Here: the realisation of users’ goals while taking into account their needs and limitations.

We delved deeper into this topic together with Marie Potel-Saville, Founder and CEO at Fairpatters and Amurabi. Titled ‘Design-thinking as a facilitator of responsible innovation by design’, this discussion is the perfect way to start our 2024 season.

Together with Marie, we resume our podcast journey kicking off season 4 to unpack the meaning of human-centricity in the development and governance of digital technologies. Guided by the design-thinking methodology, we uncovered the danger of dark patterns in the digital environment and potential solutions to overcome them, discussed the role of multidisciplinary teams in driving user engagement, understandability and usability, and highlighted the value of trust for growth.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank the team at the CPDP conference for playing a big part in the creation of this podcast episode. It is through their 2023 conference in Brussels at which we were one of the official podcast partners, that we met Marie and got inspired by her work. CPDP is an annual three-day conference devoted to privacy and data protection. It will take place this year on 22-24 May in Brussels, and we gladly recommend it to our community.

‘Show don’t tell’ is one of the most famous design-thinking mantras, and we want to respect this approach too. So, without further ado, take a listen yourself to the first episode of the year on your podcast platform of preference.
